How it all began...

Elisabeth Feigl founded and runs the Elfes World Thailand animal sanctuary, which is home to 490 rescued animals from the streets of Koh Samui or from the illegal dog meat trade. Madam - the beginning of everything

In 2000, Elisabeth Feigl, known as Elfe (from the first letters of her first name and surname), made a stopover on Koh Samui on her trip to Australia. There she took in her first dog - Madam. Madam laid the foundation for Elfes World, where numerous rescued dogs live today. (Madam passed away in 2018 at the age of 17).

The number of emergency cases grew and Elfe leased land in the southwest of the island of Koh Samui to found Elfes World as a sanctuary for dogs in 2002. She financed the animal sanctuary privately until 2005, then received support from an association founded in 2007. After its dissolution in 2013, Elfes World is once again privately organized.

The animal sanctuary today

Between 2011 and 2014, we took in several hundred dogs that had been rescued from the illegal dog meat trade and were forced to live in extremely poor conditions in huge mass rescue camps. Their chances of survival there were extremely slim.

To do justice to all the animals and ensure that they want for nothing, Elfe is there for them around the clock, seven days a week. She knows every single animal very well and loves each one equally. The daily care of the animals means a lot of hard work, no free time, no social activities, no vacations and no free weekends. Elfe has chosen this life and has never regretted it.

Seeing her animals healthy and happy, whether at home or in their new homes in Europe or the USA, being able to help new emergencies and being surrounded by many animals every day is the best reward for all the work, worries and hardships. She is grateful for what she has been able to achieve for the animals over the years with the help of kind helpers, sponsors and donors.
We finance the maintenance of the sanctuary and the care of the current 490 animals entirely from donations, which is of course not easy with so many hundreds of animals. Food, accommodation, helpers and vets take up large sums of money. It is a real challenge every month to fill all the bellies and keep the animals healthy and the shelter intact. Without financial support, it is not possible to care for the animals.

The animals live in smaller and larger groups in beautiful enclosures equipped with bamboo benches and covered resting areas. Some live at Elfe's house (mainly the very small, sick and weak animals). The dogs are lovingly cared for by Elfe and a few helpers.

In the administrative area (Facebook, Instagram, website, campaigns, sponsor search, correspondence with supporters, etc.) we have had a small support team of lovely volunteers for several years.
Some dogs have sponsors, so that at least food, worming and tick protection are guaranteed. However, many are still looking for a loving sponsor. Partial sponsorships are also possible.

You can get an insight into our everyday life, our animals and our work under the menu item “About us”. In addition to our facility and our team, we would also like to introduce you to a few of our dogs who have undergone a truly miraculous transformation. They came to us more dead than alive, from the street or from the dog meat trade - they fought their way back to life. Many have lost this fight, each one has torn out a piece of our hearts... But those who have made it through confirm our work every day, they show us what we are here for. They are our “reward” and our motivation to continue our work as long as we are able to do so.
Thank you for your visit and your interest in us and our four-legged friends.
